Postpartum
Doula

What is the difference between a postpartum doula and a birth doula?

While a birth doula provides support before and during birth, a postpartum doula supports families during the first three months after birth, often called the fourth trimester. This is a time of recovery, adjustment, and learning to care for a newborn. The doula helps with baby care, answers questions, and supports the birthing mom’s healing so she feels more confident and rested. I offer both birth and postpartum doula care, and you’re welcome to choose one or both depending on your needs.

When is the best time to hire a postpartum doula?

You can arrange for postpartum doula services anytime during pregnancy or after your baby is born. However, many new parents don’t recognize their need for additional help until the baby arrives and the early days become overwhelming. I am happy to schedule postpartum doula care any time before delivery or within three months after birth.

How does a postpartum doula differ from a nanny or baby-sitter?

A postpartum doula is professionally trained and specializes in comprehensive support that goes beyond just caring for the baby. Unlike caregivers who focus solely on baby care, a postpartum doula offers education on postpartum recovery and newborn care, breastfeeding, nutrition, and sleeping. They give emotional support and evidence-based information so new parents are better equipped, confident and rested as they navigate these new beginnings.

Who can use a postpartum doula?
