Why do I need a doula if I already have a midwife?
A doula and a midwife play different roles and work together to care and support you during birth. The midwife is the medical care provider that replaces the OB/GYN. Her primary responsibility is the health and safety of you and your baby. While many midwives are willing to offer some support and guidance during birth, their focus is monitoring your labor progression, performing clinical duties, and assisting you in delivery. A doula’s sole focus is to support you and your husband/birth partner physically in those moment-by-moment decisions to make labor feel more manageable. She offers emotional steadiness, practical support, and continuity from pregnancy through the postpartum period.
What if I'm not planning a natural child birth?

It is a common misconception that doulas are only for families who are choosing to have an unmedicated birth. However, as a professional birth doula, I am trained to support all kinds of births, whether it’s medicated, unmedicated, vaginal, cesarean, or induced. My goal is to help you make informed decisions that align with your values and preferences and support you no matter how your birth unfolds. I provide the same level of support whether you give birth in a hospital, birth center, or at home.
Will you replace my husband during labor and delivery?
No, I am here to support your husband as well! Your husband plays a vital role, and my goal is to equip and support him so he can be as involved in the birth process as he would like. My presence takes the pressure off him to remember everything from your childbirth class or to constantly guess the "right" thing to do next, reducing his anxiety and freeing him to offer more emotional support. I come alongside so he can feel prepared and confident in supporting you throughout labor. We’ll take time during your prenatal visits to clarify my role and make sure it aligns with your expectations.
Why do I need a doula when I have a labor & delivery nurse?

Although nurses can provide support and sometimes positioning suggestions during labor and delivery, they spend most of their time performing clinical duties, charting, and assisting with other patients. Because they’re often in and out of the room, it’s difficult for them to offer uninterrupted, attentive care. A doula provides continuous care throughout labor and delivery, attuned to both your needs and your husband’s, providing the type of support you need when you need it.
Do you take insurance?

Even though I do not network with any insurance companies, you may be able to submit for reimbursement to your private insurance plan after your baby is born. I'm happy to provide information and documentation to assist you in this process. I can provide a superbill and other requested information if you are a member of a health sharing organization, such as Samaritan Ministries, that provides reimbursement for doula care.
